Dr Robert Finch MBBS (Qld) FRACS is a general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon based in Brisbane, Queensland.
Dr Finch is a consultant surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. He is a visiting surgeon at a number of private hospitals including St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside, St Andrews War Memorial Hospital and the Wesley Hospital. He is chairman of the morbidity and mortality committee and a clinical supervisor at the RBWH. He has a university appointment at the University of Queensland as a clinical lecturer in surgery and is actively involved in teaching medical students, junior doctors and surgical trainees.
Dr Finch is an enthusiastic upper gastrointestinal surgeon who actively participates in general on call and acute surgery. His extensive subspecialty training completed in Australia and abroad has allowed him to develop a subspecialty practice as well. His area of subspecialty expertise encompasses upper gastrointestinal surgery including surgery for weight loss and reflux. This surgical repertoire includes benign and malignant disease and all malignant conditions are approached in a multidisciplinary way, with involvement of other specialists such as oncologists where this is required. Dr Finch is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon and where appropriate keyhole surgical techniques will be applied.
Dr Finch has a commitment to the highest standards of clinical surgery. This includes the technical aspects of surgery, pre-operative planning and post-operative care. He is a regular participant and speaker at national and international meetings and is a member of the Australian and New Zealand sub specialty societies for upper gastrointestinal surgery. Previously Dr Finch has provided surgical outreach services to Longreach Hospital. He is happy to consult on acute surgical cases and elective surgical problems and is involved in a group practice that ensures high levels of cover for all patients 365 days a year.
