Dr Kevin Chan is a Brisbane Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon, Bariatric Surgeon, and General Surgeon.
He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Queensland in 2003. He trained and worked as a pharmacist prior to completing his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree at the University of Queensland in 2008. He began General Surgery Training in Queensland in 2011 through the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and its affiliated hospitals. Once he completed his General Surgery Fellowship in 2015, he underwent further training in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery with the Upper Gastrointestinal / Hepatobiliary Unit at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne.
Kevin was subsequently accepted onto the highly competitive Australian and New Zealand Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery Association (ANZGOSA) post-fellowship training program. During this time he gained extensive experience in Advanced Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Bariatric Surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and Concord Repatriation General Hospital Sydney.
He returned to Brisbane where he started Total Upper GI Surgery with like-minded surgeons who aim to provide their patients with exceptional care in the fields of weight loss, reflux, oesophagogastric cancer and general surgery. Kevin’s special areas of interest include reflux surgery, upper gastrointestinal oncology and bariatric surgery.
He is a member of ANZGOSA, ANZMOSS and GSA and continues to keep abreast with developments in upper gastrointestinal surgery and bariatric surgery by attending local and international conferences.
He currently holds a VMO post at the Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital and he consults and operates at St Vincent’s Private Hospital Northside (Chermside), St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital (Spring Hill) and The Wesley Hospital (Auchenflower).
