Initial visit
The cost of an initial consultation is $210 and payable on the day. Of this fee Medicare will rebate $84.15 as of 1st July 2024.
Surgical fees
Your private health fund will cover some of the surgical costs, depending on your health insurer and level of cover. Total Upper GI Surgery will provide you with a quote stating the medicare item numbers for your procedure. Your anaesthetist will also provide you a written quote.
Total Upper GI Surgery endeavour to provide high quality health care. The costs associated with providing this care are high. The fees are fair and reasonable and based on the complexity and level of expertise required. The AMA (Australian Medical Association) provides a list of recommended fees for all operations. Our surgeons will generally charge a fee less than the AMA fee. There however will generally be a gap (a fee above the rebate received from Medicare and your health fund).
Our practice is a known GAP practice for most surgery excluding weight loss surgery. For weight loss surgery costs vary depending on many factors. For more detailed costing refer to our weight loss surgery fees.
Superannuation for weight loss surgery
We at Total Upper GI Surgery definitely accept patients who are utilising superannuation to improve their health with weight loss surgery. In appropriate patients, this will require a form to be brought to your first appointment. Our surgeons will then discuss with you the surgery with you and fill out the form if appropriate.
